I won't lie. Sometimes it's hard being the Plus Size Riveter.

I can catch myself comparing my body shape to the beautiful shapes of my fellow Riveters.

I struggle to find 1940's outfits that fit. Those authentic cute vintage outfits don't fit me - the ladies back then were smaller. Many of those wonderful shops that host bombshell clothes don't carry plus size....or if they do the "plus sizes" are actually size 12 or 14.

Long ago, I gave up hating myself or my life based on the size and shape of my body.

Long ago, I gave up hating myself or my life based on the size and shape of my body. So while I can catch those old habits of comparison, jealousy and shame, I don't allow them to run my life.

I've found a few great places to find plus size 1940's inspired outfits. If you are a plus size lady or know of one send her this!

A Bit More Hip. In Saskatoon, this local shop has been my saving grace. One of my favorite designers that they bring in is Vancouver based, Cherry Velvet.

Eshakti. Melissa and I recently checked out this great little online store. They have all sorts of beautiful dresses including 1940's inspired ones. For an extra $7.50 they can make it in EXACTLY your size. Be sure to measure yourself correctly....I made mine WAY too big. Luckily, Melissa's mom is a seamstress and is able to take it in. What a nice problem to have!

Dress Barn. Now and again I'll luck out with a standard shop. This happens primarily in the US where there are so many women with luscious curves like myself. I found this beautiful little polka dot outfit in a Dress Barn in Florida. I almost didn't purchase it, but my mother made me. Thank goodness I did since it's become one of my standards.

Backstage with my polka dot standard. Not such a great shot of the dress....but I love the lighting.

Do you have any good plus size stores you pick up your cute vintage, bombshell outfits?  Spill your secrets, I'd love to know!
