I'm not sure if you knew, but the Riveters have been busy little bees. Over the past year we have been working on a collection of original tunes. 13 gems of true Riveter charm and grit! In the past our repertoire has consisted of mainly traditional songs and covers, so we are really excited about this new collection of originals.
Our week recording in Winnipeg was an easy breezy success! Working with a band is new to us, so we weren't sure what to expect. We were floored by the drummer and bassist our producer chose for us. It's not easy to please all 4 of us, but Murray Pulver, our dear brilliant producer, was the man for the job! Murray quickly earned the name "champion of cheer". I was so amazed with Daniel Roy (drummer) and Julian Bradford's (bassist) musicianship, positive fun attitudes, and also just their style of playing. Paul Yee was our engineer, and his sister Carlan helped out with studio setup. These 2 were also a joy to be around!
Alexis Normand must be the hardest working woman in the music industry I know! Yes, she's a great band manager, grant writer, and also the Queen of organization. But just wait until you hear her guitar playing on this recording! She laid down 12 of the 13 tracks like the pro she really is - and these are NOT 3-chord songs people.
Is it supposed to be this easy? Well, it took us some trying to get here. The 4 of us all have very different tastes and ideas about music. We actually had to figure out what we didn't like before getting to what we do like. There was a time when we felt as though we were banging our heads against the wall, trying to find a sound we all liked. That was not fun, but we came out on top, and eventually realized we had to go through that experience in order to get to where we are now.
With all of the bass, drum, guitar, and half of the lead vocal tracks laid, we are about half way through our recording process. Next we will be finishing up lead vocals, and laying down harmonies, which we will be doing later this week in Saskatoon. After that we will be adding more instruments to the mix - I will leave that part to be a surprise. You will have to buy the album this October!
Thanks so much to Creative Saskatchewan and Factor - without their financial support, this album wouldn't happen!
