Riveter #5 is due to come earth side in just 3 weeks!
While my belly button enjoys its final days and my feet can hardly fit into my Riveting shoes; we've called upon a superhero singer to step in and take on some shows in my absence.
I asked Taylor to share a bit more about herself so you could get to know her better. Discover all her secrets below! xoxo Farideh
Name: Taylor Rae Telfer
Where are you from?
Regina is my birthplace, but Saskatoon is home.
What instruments do you play?
Guitar, and a bit of kalimba, ukulele and djembe.
Tell us about your musical background.
I’ve always loved music, but I didn’t grow up in a very musical environment – none of my family is musical. Despite that, since toddlerhood I’ve been singing, humming, or whistling almost everywhere I go! In high school I learned to play guitar, mostly self-taught, and I became the ultimate choral and theatre geek. Playing music remained my favorite hobby throughout university, and after I graduated with a B.A. in Anthropology, I was finally able to invest more time into writing and performing a little.
What was it like auditioning for the Riveters?
It was fun! I haven’t put myself through an audition in several years, so I was pretty nervous going into it, but as soon as I entered the room and met all the girls, I was totally comfortable! They were so friendly and laid-back, so that made it really easy to just be myself and do my thing
What’s been the hardest part of preparing as a sub for Rosie & the Riveters?
The only part that’s been a little challenging has been learning all the material, but it’s also been fun, and I’m picking it up a lot quicker than I thought I would! Listening on repeat to songs with lyrics like “there are a million little things that make life grand”, or “I’m dancin’ cuz of my joy” on repeat for weeks on end makes it pretty hard to be in a bad mood.
What most excites you about singing with Rosie & the Riveters?
I’m thrilled about the prospect of learning and growing musically, and gaining valuable experience as a performer. But I am probably most excited about having this opportunity to connect with others through music, and to work with 3 wonderfully talented and accomplished singers!
What temptation can you not resist?
A good bargain. I love thrift shopping and repurposing other people’s junk. And also cheese.
Where can people learn more about you?
You can find me on Facebook as Taylor Rae – I’m fairly active on Facebook, so that’ll give you a pretty good idea of my interests and day-to-day life/activities. I’m also on instagram as tayraetel, and I used to keep a blog but I haven’t been updating it very regularly lately, and whenever I do, it’s always shared on facebook as well
Here is a youtube link which will take you to an original song of mine, called Loveliness.
